BIOGRAPHIE
Since 2003, the proud sons ot the ethnic
Bwabas, The Burkina Azza, coming from
a long line of musicians and balafon
players, have been taking us them, on
a voyage of initiation, from the streets
of Ouaga to the villages, found near the
Boucle of Mouhoun.
Born
at Nayerina, in the region of
Djibasso, and bathed in music since
childhood, they bring to life in their
musicianship and their outlook on the
world, the literal meaning of their stage
name in the Bobo language «Griots of
Burkina».
With
poetry and kindness the group
mixes modern notes with traditonal
tones and this without leaving the
present day, faithfully perpetuates
tradition and memory at national and
international performances.
From their many chances to meet and
share the stage with a wide range of
artists they are able to develop their
listening skills, their versatility and
adaptability.
Adama
Koueta, leader and composer,
left Djibasso for Ouaga at the age of 16
and he created the very first version of
the group.
Adama’s
father, Zoura Koeta, a griot
who travelled the roads of Burkina and
nearby countries, whith his balafon on
his shoulder, gave his son the love and
respect of the Musical Instrument. He
taught him how to «caress it so that it
spoke and sounded as we love to hear
it»
They took part in the recording of the
album «West or The World» with the jazz
musician Ashley de Neef, bringing to
their unique and distinctive sound.
With this same energy, they make all
their instruments themselves, balafon,
kora, percussion...
